My earliest musical influence would be watching my dad play drums. I was fascinated and loved everything about it. As I grew, I became inspired by drummers like Stewart Copeland, John Bonham, and Elvin Jones. In addition to private lessons in rock, jazz and latin jazz, I also studied two semesters of African drumming in college under Yacub Addy. I adapt my teaching style to match the student - some students need firm structure and some need to be free to explore. I teach students how to teach themselves by understanding how to read, set up goals and respect the importance of practice time (teach a person to fish and they'll eat for a lifetime). Although I focus on the student's preferred genre of music, I also strive to make them well rounded in a variety of drumming approaches.
